Tucson-area home exterior with Pella wood doors

Project Details

Located in Tucson, Arizona, this adobe-inspired Southwestern home features rusty earth tones that harmoniously blend with the desert landscape beyond. The city's sunny climate inspires open floor plans, large windows to capture scenic mountain vistas and outdoor living areas that make the most of the year-round warmth. To better connect their indoor and outdoor spaces, these homeowners turned to Pella to install two new patio doors – French patio doors in the living room and sliding glass doors in the family room.

Customizable Wood Doors Blend with Existing Home Design

Transforming this Tucson home with new patio doors was a challenging project, one that our team tackled with expertise and precision. The primary challenge lay in the large proportions of the existing openings, which required careful measurement and installation to ensure a perfect fit. The homeowners also desired doors that would match the existing windows and trim work around their home. They wanted the new patio doors to fit right in as if they had always been there.

The Pella of Arizona team recommended wood patio doors for the highly customizable designs they offer. This gave the homeowners the ability to personalize size, color and style more than they could with other materials. The new doors have wood-stained interiors and trim to match the existing woodwork around the home. Black patio doors for the exterior blend in with the other windows, making the openings feel even larger.

Energy-Efficient Doors Block Harmful UV Rays

While the look of these doors was a primary factor for this project, the performance of the doors was just as important. Known for its arid and desert climate, Tucson requires that homes maintain comfortable temperatures year-round. During the patio door selection process, the homeowners stressed the need for products that are energy efficient. The Pella team achieved this by providing Low-E glass that blocks most of the sun’s harmful UV rays. The glass reflects heat away from the home in the summer to keep it cooler, and vice versa in the winter. By reducing UV rays, the patio doors also help prevent flooring and furniture from fading. The homeowners now enjoy plenty of natural Arizona sunlight without compromising on energy performance.

Pella Arizona Accomplishes Tight Project Schedule

In addition to particular product necessities, this project also required the Pella Arizona team to work within a very short timeframe. With multiple renovations simultaneously happening throughout the home, other vendors needed access to these same areas of the home. The homeowners were impressed by how meticulous and efficient Pella’s team was.

The end result exceeded the homeowners’ expectations, bringing newfound beauty and functionality to their living spaces. In fact, the success of this project has already spurred discussions about a third phase. We look forward to continuing to work with these homeowners to transform their Tucson home with windows and doors.
