Now that summer is upon us, we’ll be opening up windows to let in the fresh air and cool breeze. Over time, however, dirt, dust, and debris can accumulate in your screens. It’s important to keep screens clean to help maximize your view and help preserve them for years to come.
Here are some helpful cleaning tips:
Remove the screen from the window or door
If you are looking for a thorough cleaning, removing the screens will give you a more complete clean. While the screen is removed, this is also a good time to clean the window. You can clean screens in your bathtub or outside.
Use soap and water. And, for Vivid View Pella screens, only use water.
Chemicals can be harsh on fragile screens. To ensure a thorough clean that won’t damage the frames, use a gentle soap like liquid dish soap and water. Be sure to review your screen manufacturer’s instructions for proper screen care.
Use the proper tools.
A good cleaning tool to remove built up dirt on screens is a gentle upholstery brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. If you do not have one of these, any gentle scrub brush or dish cloth will work.
Make sure you do not apply too much pressure when washing your screens as they could rip. Also, put them in a safe place to air dry and make sure children or pets do not sit or stand on them.
Know when to replace.
Pella Windows and Doors of Wisconsin offers annual home check-ups where they will assess your windows and doors for any needed maintenance or replacements.
