Nate Hilt, architectural consultant.
Pella Windows and Doors of Wisconsin, headquartered in Green Bay, is strengthening the connection between sales and design with the help of architectural consultant, Nate Hilt. We spent some time getting to know Nate's background, his eye for design, and how Pella is offering architects the support and resources to build stronger relationships with customers.
What peaked your interest in the construction and design industry?
I became interested in construction and design at a young age because my father was a contractor. I wanted to be in the field, but in a more structured environment. I had seen what my dad dealt with and I didn't want to wrestle with those elements of the construction world.
Before joining the team at Pella Windows and Doors of Wisconsin, how were you using your skill set?
I have been in the industry for more than 23 years, and like most, began at the bottom of the totem pole. I began working at Tomahawk Log and Country Homes, Inc. and gradually worked my way into operations, eventually becoming the executive vice president of operations. From there, I owned and operated my own studio, Hilt Designs, in northern Wisconsin until moving to the Fox Valley area roughly two years ago.
What is your role as an architectural consultant?
My job is to cultivate and strengthen Pella's relationships with residential architects and contractors and provide them support in any way I can. I'm involved in the design and development aspects of each project our partnering architects are working on. My experience adds a unique perspective that moves beyond product recommendations and sales discussions.
I mainly work with architects in the front end of the process. We are drawing and recommending various Pella products in the early stages of a project; whereas before, our sales representatives came into play post-design. We're finding that this service is a time saving benefit as more architects are drawing directly with Pella Windows and Doors of Wisconsin instead of having contractors convert them post-design. My background and experience allows me to make product recommendations that are right for the budget and project.
The weather will be warming up soon. Do you and your family have any spring or summertime hobbies you're looking forward to?
It's the middle of swim season for my two teenage daughters, so we're currently busy with weekend meets. Our whole family is very athletic. Come summer, we spend a great deal of time traveling and playing golf.
It's a great way for us to enjoy our family, the weather, and have a little fun.
