Project Details

A few miles northwest of downtown Boston sits historic Medford, Massachusetts on the banks of the famed Mystic River. The bustling city is home to Tufts University and the owners of this traditional multi-story home. After experiencing several seal failures on their existing vinyl casement windows, the homeowners came to Pella looking for durable traditional windows to improve the beauty of their home.

Durable White Windows Complement Traditional Aesthetic

Since durability, quality and aesthetic were all major factors in this replacement project, the homeowners opted for new replacement windows rather than choosing a seal replacement for their casement windows. To maintain the traditional look of their home, they chose classic white double-hung windows. The crisp white windows contrast beautifully against the sage siding and exterior trim of the home. In addition, the performance tested glass seals on their new windows grant peace of mind they will provide years of dependable performance and beauty.

Easy-to-Clean Double-Hung Windows Improve Functionality

With the upgrade to traditional double-hung windows, the homeowners were elated to gain some additional usable space on the exterior of their home as well as easy-to-clean features. The old casement windows swing open to the exterior of the home, which could interfere with the landscaping and took away valuable space right next to the home. The new double-hung windows have sashes that slide vertically. The top sash can slide down and the bottom sash can slide up to improve ventilation throughout the home. The sashes also tilt to the interior for easy cleaning, especially from the second floor of the home.
