From Tired to Trending: Updating a Chicago Home with Black Windows

POSTED ON in Pella Windows & Doors of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana

Project Scope

  • Type: Home/Residence
  • Industry: Retail
  • Location: Chicago
  • Age of Structure: 40 years
  • Area of Structure Involved: Whole Home

When a homeowner wants a dramatic aesthetic change to their home, we get excited. Oftentimes with new windows and doors you don’t see a difference, but you can hear and feel it.

We’ve worked on hundreds of transformations, but we thought it would be fun to highlight some of our favorites. This post highlights a favorite of Larry Domark, one of  Pella of Chicago's top representatives.

Before
Outdated Chicago Home

After
Updated Chicago Home with Black Windows

For this project, the homeowner wanted to make a dramatic change. Their 40-year old home was dated, with brown brick and dark painted wood. Low-quality vinyl windows with broken seals and moisture inside the glass were throughout the home.

The homeowners were tired of drafts and moisture and wanted to improve the curb appeal of their home. Larry helped bring their vision to life with Pella’s Impervia fiberglass double-hung windows with a black exterior.

New windows and doors weren’t the only part of this transformation. The homeowners painted the entire exterior of the home a bright white, making their new, large black windows the primary focal point of the home.

The transformation is stunning—improving both the look of the home and its energy efficiency.

"New windows and doors provide less stress for my customers in their busy lives with
better functionality, sound control, and energy efficiency," says Domark. "I think I was almost as thrilled as the homeowners with the outcome. It was exactly what
they needed and wanted."
