Great Spring Cleaning Projects While You're at Home

Posted on April 17, 2020 in Pella Windows & Doors of Cleveland

Spring cleaning is here! While that usually means setting aside a Saturday (or two) to tackle your top projects, right now is a great time to get through your entire spring cleaning list and really make your living spaces shine. If you’re looking for some great spring cleaning ideas, check out our list below.

Reorganize Your Office

Since you’re spending more time than usual here, it’s a good idea to tidy up office clutter that accumulates over the course of the year. The neater your office, the more productive you’ll be while working from home! For office design tips, check out our best patio doors for your office.

Closet: Keep, Toss, Donate

We all have a few items in our closet that we just don’t use anymore. Whether it’s the wrong size, style or from another decade, if you’re looking to maximize space, going through your closet will be key. Make piles to keep, throw away and donate. A good question to ask yourself is, “Have I worn this in the last year?” If the answer is “no," it might be time to toss it!

Any clothes you don’t want and remain in good condition, consider donating to your local charity. Clothes in less than good condition can be thrown away in your spring cleaning pile or recycled.

Clean Out and Reorganize Your Garage

From that old toolbox to the coffee table with three legs that still needs fixing, your garage can become the catch-all for unseemly items that just don’t belong in your home but you just can't seem to part with.

If you store something in the garage for longer than six months and it’s still not fixed, toss it in the spring cleaning pile. Cleaning the garage is also a great opportunity to reorganize your tools and gardening gear for the spring.

Clean Your Windows—Inside and Out!

Beautiful windows can make all the difference in your home (we are, after all, the window experts). Wipe down your windows inside and out to give your home a fresh and clean look.Pella Glass Cleaner

Sort the "Junk" Drawer

We all have a drawer where we store expired coupons and takeout menus we haven't used in years.  While it might be a fantasy to completely rid yourself of this drawer, sorting through the old, outdated and underused items can make things all the more manageable. If you’re really looking to level up your junk drawer, try using office organizers, small bins and rubber bands.

Power Wash Your Siding (And Driveway, if You’re Feeling Ambitious)

While this might not be something you consider daily, you'll definitely notice the difference after you're finished cleaning. This is a quick and easy way to upgrade your curb appeal drastically.

Steam Clean Your Carpets

Steam cleaning a couple of times a year is a great way to keep your carpet pristine, prevent allergens in your home and keep that pesky pet hair out of the way.

Reorganize Your Supply Closet

Chances are your supply closet is packed to the brim with cleaning supplies and other essentials. Reorganizing this before you dive into any serious spring cleaning will make the entire process much easier. You'll know exactly what supplies you have and where to find the things you need.

Wipe Down Mirrors and Picture Frames

Another project that often goes unnoticed, mirrors and picture frames slowly get dirty over time. Simply wiping them down can elevate a room's aesthetic, making your house look brighter in a big way.

Clean Out Your Basement Storage

Another great example of the six-month rule: if you haven't used something in the last six months, you probably no longer need it. Basements are perfect for extra storage space, but, sometimes, we forget what exactly we're storing and why. Go through your basement storage, donating, tossing or recycling things you no longer need.

Go Through Your Kitchen Cabinets

This task can far too often go overlooked. There's nothing more frustrating than an overstuffed kitchen cabinet! Consider getting rid of anything chipped, mismatched, broken, missing a lid or that you simply don’t use anymore. Donate what’s still usable and throw everything else in the spring cleaning pile.

Spring cleaning can be a large undertaking. But, hopefully, when you tackle these steps one-by-one, you'll be well on your way to an organized house and more comfortable home.
