Summer is quickly approaching. With warmer weather coming, it’s time to start planning for fun things to do during the summer months. While the first thing to come to your mind might be to go on a vacation, there are plenty of things to do from and around your home to avoid the overly crowded vacation spots as the pandemic continues.

Get a Fun Toy to Cool Off
There’s nothing better than cooling off during a hot summer day. While you may not be able to go to a fancy hotel right on the beach, you can bring the water to you!
Slip and slides. Want a fun new water toy? Head over to your local store and pick up a slip and slide or some new, crazy water toy that has come out recently. This will entertain the kids for a while and the adults will probably have a go once or twice too. Want to be even more creative? Add some soap to the water and slide around in the bubbles! There are so many different water toys to choose from, you’ll have endless options for your backyard for entertainment.
Sprinklers. Ah. The good ol’ sprinkler. Sprinklers are great for watering your grass to maintain that perfect shade of green, but they can also be transformed into another fun water toy. Enjoy watching your kids run back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth until they wear themselves out. Sprinklers now serve dual purposes and can easily be moved for fun wherever your hose can reach.
Pool. There are many different types of pools to choose from based on preference and budget. This includes an in-ground pool, an above-ground pool or an inflatable one. They also range in size and depth. If you already have a pool, use it! Lay out in the sun and enjoy an ice-cold drink, or dive in and cool off. You can even work up a sweat by swimming for exercise. Stop by your local store to get some cool water toys for your pool, too. From pool noodles to robotic animals that swim with you, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. You can also consider upgrading your outdoor/pool space by adding a deck, pool house, or outdoor grilling and lounging area.
Other Summer Activities
Gardening. Ready to add a beautiful centerpiece to your backyard? Gardening is a great hobby to pick up if you like to be in nature and to watch your hard work grow! You can buy plants or seeds at your local nursery and spend the day making the exterior of your home beautiful and flowery. Some plants you can plant just once, and it will come back every year. You can also have a vegetable garden to get fresh carrots, lettuce, peppers, and more to pick and use for cooking. You can get even more creative by adding stones or other garden accessories. There are so many different types of plants and things to include in your garden that take time and that will have you feeling productive as your hard work turns into a beautiful piece of art.

Relax at home. Sometimes, you just need to relax. Between work and kids, you may want to just take some time for yourself. Set some time, a night, or a whole weekend to just focus on you. There are plenty of ways to take care of yourself from your own home. You can order in from your favorite take-out place or try something new. You can then pick out your favorite bath bomb or bubble bath and take a relaxing bath. You can also end the night enjoying a movie with some popcorn. You might not think of these things as “fun,” but everyone needs some time for self-care and to just spend time relaxing.
Nature walks. A great social distancing activity that is healthy and comes with gorgeous views is going for a nature walk. There are probably trails or beaches nearby that you can visit, take in the fresh air and snap some pics. Being able to just get away from work and stress to exercise and get fresh air can make your day better. You can take an early morning walk or enjoy the beautiful sunset. These walks can become part of your daily routine to have some time to enjoy the summer weather while getting in exercise and clearing your mind. The walks don’t have to be long, but more about enjoying nature. You can also invite friends and family to join you so for added conversation.
Adopt a pet. Many people have stated that they feel lonely during this pandemic. With summer approaching, it’s a great time to adopt a friend and go on fun outdoor adventures with you. Adopting a pet is a lot of work, but that’s the point! A pet will fill up your time and give you plenty of love to boost your serotonin levels. Your new friend can be there to hang out with you and will let you know when it’s time for a break, so that you can take them on an adventure or just give extra scratches and love.

Home improvements. Home improvements aren't always glamorous, but they are a necessity! You probably have a list of things that you want (and need) to get done around the house, but simply haven’t had the time, money or have just been putting it off. Windows and doors are an important part of your home and can be that next project that you check off. Patio doors are especially important as with the summer months, there will be more traffic going outside. With all the fun activities mentioned earlier, installing our sliding patio doors are a great upgrade for going in and out of your home with your new puppy, to grill, to garden or for taking a dip in the pool.
