Doors are an essential part of your home. The type and style of door you pick can enhance your home's design and add functionality to your home.

Let’s explore the different patio and front exterior door options for your home.

French Doors

Hinged, or French, doors swing from the sides to create a wide, elegant entryway into your home. These doors are available as a single or side-by-side configuration and can be an inswing or outswing. For side-by-side French doors, you can choose to have both doors operable or create a combination of one operable door and one stationary door. French doors are a great option for high-traffic entertainment areas. They are easy to operate and provide a traditional, elegant look.

We’ve worked with several contractors to install our French doors. For example, we worked with PEQ Construction to install a French patio door on a Mechanicsburg, PA, home. The installation of this door meant the homeowners were able to achieve their goal of brightening their kitchen.

We also worked with Ebersole Brothers Construction on a home in Lancaster, PA to add a hinged patio door and a sliding glass door. We also installed picture and double-hung windows on the home. These doors and windows featured custom colors and cladding to help update and make the historic home stand out.

Sliding Doors

Sliding doors consist of two large glass door panels, with one operable panel that glides along the track within the frame, rather than swinging open. Because of their space-saving design, these patio doors offer flexibility with furniture arrangements in your home and on your patio. Plus, the large glass panels on sliding doors allow lots of natural light to illuminate the room while giving you an unobstructed view of the outdoors. With more light coming in, these doors can help your room feel larger. Along with our sliding patio doors, we also have sliding door screens and our innovative Rolscreen that can make your sliding doors even more convenient.

Our local Pella team installed a sliding door paired with wood, fixed windows that featured grilles between the glass on a Middletown, PA home. The blinds between the glass were also added to the sliding door to enhance the homeowner’s privacy conveniently. The color change of the door to red also added a pop to the entryway, and the door and window combination created a unique look.

Four-panel sliding patio door leading to deck

Another exciting transformation story is when we worked with Hess Custom Home Builders on a Fayetteville, PA, home to install our four-panel sliding door on what was previously just a plain, back wall. With this door installation, we were able to bring in more sunlight to the room and open up the space. This sliding door also featured shades between the glass to allow the homeowner to control their privacy and the amount of light coming in.

Sliding glass doors come in many different sizes. You can get multiple panels for your sliding doors, including two-, three- and four-panel configurations. You can even choose a multi-slide patio door to achieve an immersive indoor/outdoor space. These doors are made up of three or more expansive panels that stack against each other or tuck away into a wall pocket, so they are out of sight. You are also able to customize where you want the opening of your sliding door to be — it can start on either side or open in the middle. Either way, this large glass door is a great option for large patios and areas you want to entertain guests indoors and outdoors. Plus, it helps bring in lots of natural light and creates a modern, contemporary feel.

Front Door Options

At Pella, we offer a variety of front doors. Our front door materials include steel and fiberglass. You can also choose many design options such as color, finish and even how much glass you want and the design for your front door. For example, you can choose to have multiple rows of glass or have the glass only on the top half of your door. You can also choose to have sidelights on one or both sides of your entry door to allow in more natural light.

The glass on your doors and sidelights can also be personalized with decorative and obscure glass or grilles. Grilles are a great way to enhance the style of your exterior doors. For example, adding our true-divided-light grilles can provide an elegant, traditional look. Another way to enhance your front entryway is by installing transoms above your exterior doors. These are available in a rectangular shape and allow more natural light to enter your living space and make the room appear larger.

Lastly, we offer a variety of hardware for your exterior doors. We partnered with Baldwin to create stunning collections in classic, rustic and modern to complement your home’s style and architecture so you can coordinate your door hardware with your window hardware. You can also choose additional security features for peace of mind.

At Pella, we can help you find the best patio and front doors for your home. We offer a variety of door styles, each with its own benefits and made to increase the style and functionality of your home. So whether you want to add elegance with a French exterior door, have simplicity with a sliding door or make a statement with your front entry door, our door professionals are here to help.
