Project Details

Located just one hour southeast of Charlotte sits Marshville, North Carolina. With rolling fields and horses behind their home, this Marshville homeowner was looking to update their home with a new door so they can enjoy their peaceful setting. They found just what they were looking for, a new wood patio door, at Pella North Carolina.

Large Glass Panels Without Grilles Deliver Modern Aesthetic

Off the home’s living room and leading to the back patio were two sets of French doors with windows in between. The homeowner loved how the entire wall was filled with windows and doors but did not enjoy the traditional look and obstructed view they provided. To transform the space, they chose to replace the windows and doors with a single large French sliding patio door with four panels. The new door features big panels of glass with no grilles, delivering a modern aesthetic. By eliminating the busy grilles, more light fills the living room, there are clear sightlines to the backyard and the entire room is more serene.

Sliding Patio Door Provides More Room for Entertaining

The two panels in the middle open to each side, sliding along a track and overlapping the stationary panels on the outside. The homeowners love having more space to entertain on the patio and that the new door doesn’t require any additional floor space to operate. When they had hinged doors that swung open to the interior, it meant they couldn’t have furniture or other décor too close to the door. The two hinged doors were also on opposite sides of the room making it difficult to entertain family and friends.

Wood Patio Door Increases Energy Efficiency

One of the other perks of a new patio door is increased energy efficiency and sound reduction. The selected Pella Lifestyle Series wood patio door is known for its excellent performance. The energy efficient design features Low-E insulating glass which is a coating applied to the glass to reflect heat and the sun’s harmful UV rays. This means that the Marshville homeowner’s living room remains cool even during hot and humid North Carolina summers when the sun is beating in.

With a completely updated look, more entertaining space and better energy efficiency, the homeowners are extremely happy with the result. They now enjoy quiet mornings and evenings overlooking their horses and fields from inside of their home.
