On Tour of Wyman Heights, The View Reigns

Posted by Wes True on September 29, 2017 in Pella Windows & Doors of Omaha and Lincoln

Pella is excited to be part of this year’s tour of homes! Join Restoration Exchange on Sunday, October 1st from noon to 5pm as they explore Wyman Heights, just North of Interstate 680 on North 29th and North 30th streets. The twelve featured properties in the Florence neighborhood consist of a variety of Tudor Revival, Mid-Century Modern, and Craftsman homes.

The neighborhood has the added attraction of a unique and bold panoramic perspective of Omaha. West of the neighborhood lie unscathed hills, once considered a retreat for frontier settlers. South of the neighborhood, thirtieth street draws the eye directly to downtown Omaha’s scenic skyline. Several homes on the tour feature an East-facing vista of the Missouri River.

The Tudor Revival that sits at 9645 North 29th street was designed and built in 1939 by Zell Mills for Claude Reed.

When Shelby and Bindy Bell laid their eyes on the property in 2004, they knew they had found a rare home.

The Bells were aware that they could update or repair any house, but no amount of paint or spackle could compete with the beautiful surroundings they found in Wyman Heights. While they poured themselves into updating the home, the only improvement the view needed were exceptional windows from which to admire it.

The view from 9636 N 29th, featured home of Maija Nielsen and Martin Feichtinger, has been made even more alluring by the addition of Pella windows.

“The home was so dark!” remarked Maija. The first step to bringing more light into the Tudor revival was to upgrade the windows. Maija didn’t want to affect the aesthetic of the home, designed by Norman Brigham in 1932, so custom Pella windows were installed matching the original design.

The upgrade may have helped with energy efficiency, without sacrificing the authenticity Maija first fell in love with.

To enjoy these views, purchase tickets on the day of the tour at Florence City Hall, 2864 State Street. Tickets include a 40-page tour booklet filled with a history of the tour sites and neighborhood. The tour route is 0.6 miles. The homes are only accessible via shuttle from Florence City Hall parking lot or by bicycle.

The tour is sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, Omaha Chapter; Better Homes and Garden Real Estate - The Good Life Group;  Oldenhuis Contracting Inc; and  Re/Max Results | Team Wiebusch. Architects can earn 5 CEUs for attending.

Proceeds will support the work of Restoration Exchange Omaha.

General Manager of Operations

I serve on the executive team for the Pella Direct Sales Network (PDSN), by providing remarkable last mile services including installation, prefinishing, delivery, and exceptional customized quality in the Omaha, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs metros. One of my passions is to grow leaders within our company that will coach our teams to achieve operational excellence, through continuous improvements in quality, innovation, and productivity. At Pella of Omaha & Lincoln, we are able to solidify a strategy that produces an agile operating model, and are able to proactively respond to our everchanging market and environment.

I have learned the business from the ground up over the last 18 years.  My first role after graduating from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, was working nights at Pella Corp as an assembly line manager.  After moving back to Omaha and transferring to our PDSN, I had to the opportunity and pleasure to lead every operational and sales team.  This in-depth, hands-on experience has led up to the my readiness for this current role.

I’ve been married to my supportive wife Ashley for nearly 13 years and a proud father of three active boys and often do my best thinking (and stress relief) through regular workouts.
