Out-of-town cancer patients residing more than 40 miles or one hour from Omaha now have a free place to stay with their caregivers while receiving treatment in area hospitals. The 32-room Hope Lodge, which opened earlier this year at 80th Street and Farnam Drive, provides private guest rooms and bathrooms, community kitchens and dining areas, gathering spaces indoors and out, a library and resource rooms, and even free stocked laundry rooms. The supportive community provides patients with the closest environment to home.
“It’s a beautiful building and every patient room has Pella windows,” Pella Commercial Project Manager Jerry Murley said. “Pearce Construction installed a total of 76 Pella casement wood windows at Hope Lodge.”
Hope Lodge was awarded an Excellence in Construction Award by the Cornhusker Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors last month. Leuder Construction, the general contractor, accepted the award with project partners including Pella Windows & Doors of Omaha.
Murley, who managed the Hope Lodge project through completion, represented Pella on stage during the ceremony and accepted the award.
“The exterior of the building is one of the best looking designs I’ve been a part of and the Pella windows really brought out that look. It turned out incredible, and I would definitely credit Pella with helping with that,” Leuder Project Engineer Spencer Harder said. “The interior stained wood and finish also gave it a homey feel guests really appreciate.”
The $11.5 million Omaha facility is the 33rd official Hope Lodge in the United States and part of a nationwide group established in 1970. Funds came from local nonprofit, corporate and individual sources, and the land was donated by Methodist Hospital. “Hope Lodge was also partially funded by oncologists at some of the local hospitals,” Murley said.
