Patio Door Replacements and Back Yard Fences: A Perfect Pair for Your Perfect Pet

posted on January 15, 2021 in Pella Windows & Doors of Pittsburgh

The start of January and a new year has many homeowners thinking about home improvement goals for this coming year. This year we want to give our homeowners the best idea we’ve had yet (or at least our dogs think so). Patio door and backyard fences: the perfect duo for your 2021 home improvement goals!

A home improvement trend that’s an even better pair than peanut butter and jelly, these two home projects go together perfectly to make your and your pet’s life just a little bit easier. In addition to being a great springtime project, it’ll be even more worth it come next winter, when instead of trudging out in the snow with Fido, you can simply let him out into your backyard, while still keeping him safe.

How it Helps

When you can easily let your dog out through the patio door into your fenced in backyard, you’ll allow Fido more time to play while you work from home. In addition, you’ll be able to skip standing in the cold while he does his business in the winter!

Best Patio Door Options: Sliding vs. French

While sliding patio doors may be the simplest for letting the pup out, it can’t be your only consideration when making a change to your home like this one. A big consideration we urge homeowners to take into account is how much space they have in the area where their patio door will be. If you need all the space you can get in your dining room, an in-swing French patio door might not be the right fit for you. In that case, a sliding door will maximize your space.

If space isn’t a consideration, you have a bit more freedom but should also consider snow levels on the outside of your home and if you or your spouse regularly snow-blow or shovel the space. If you don’t, an outswing patio door may cause more of a headache than it is a benefit. An in-swing French patio door may bring the dreaded snow into your home, in this case, a sliding patio door can be preferable as well.

If neither of these are a concern for you, but the style of your home is a main priority, a French patio door matching the style of your dining room, kitchen or living room may give you the exact look you’re searching for — in addition to making it easier to manage the dog!

Regardless of the style of patio door you choose, it’s sure to simplify your chores and make your dog that much happier, and isn’t that what it’s all about?
