When you are sick, there is nothing more comforting than being at home in your own bed surrounded by familiar faces. Unfortunately, many children with serious life-threatening conditions are at the hospital day in and day out, dreaming of the day they can return home.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego provides a “home away from home” not only for critically ill and injured children but their families as well. It’s a place where parents get the support they need for the road ahead and everyone can focus on the best care possible in a warm, compassionate setting.
At Pella Windows & Doors of San Diego, we’ve always believed in the the Ronald McDonald House mission. That’s what inspired us to participate in their largest volunteer-driven fundraiser, Red Shoe Day, 10 years ago, and our involvement has grown from there.
In 2019, we were the top fundraisers for Red Shoe Day and received our trophy at the Ronald McDonald House. As the first team to raise $500 prior to the actual Red Shoe Day event, we were also given a special opportunity to meet Ronald McDonald himself! This year, as the first team to reach $1,000, we reunited with Ronald McDonald online.
It’s truly been an honor to partner with such a worthwhile organization. In addition to Red Shoe Day, we donate a portion of every purchase to the Ronald McDonald House of San Diego. Several of our employees also volunteer to serve meals there and get to see firsthand how much the Ronald McDonald House means to families. From donating a portion of our sales to donating our time, every little bit counts when it comes to helping children in need feel more at home.
