VCU's Cary Street Gym Features Pella Architect Series

Virginia Commonwealth University’s Cary St. Gym is the home to the school’s fitness center and all intramural activities ranging from swimming to basketball. The building was acquired by VCU in 1979 after serving as postal truck storage and an open-air market for nearly 90 years.

In 2009, VCU elected to renovate the large warehouse-like structure to be more beautiful, functional and energy efficient. Pella’s Architect Series windows were selected to be used on the exterior of the building; they were the perfect choice for this project. The windows needed to be large, customizable, energy efficient, and match the original historic feel of the building. Pella was able to adhere to the historical and energy standards that were the cornerstone of this renovation. Our aluminum-clad, wood Architect Series windows exceeded the expectations at the beginning of the project.

Pella’s products were part of an ensemble of industry-leading energy efficiency. This includes using recycling building materials, utilizing daylight wherever possible, motion sensor-controlled lights and dual-flush toilets. Pella is proud to be a part of this huge step forward in energy efficiency.
